Researchers manufacture record length of high-performance photonic bandgap fibre
Cut-away of a Hollow Core – Photonic Band-Gap Fibre neck-down, as generated by a fluid dynamics simulation. The ~1cm wide preform is drawn down to a slender ~0.2mm fibre in a hot furnace under gravity and longitudinal tension.
