Future Photonics Hub announces inaugural industry day with keynote speaker Dr Andrew Rickman OBE

The Future Photonics Hub's inaugural industry day will be held at the University of Southampton on Tuesday 13 September 2016.

Launched in January 2016, the Future Photonics Hub is an EPSRC Future Manufacturing Research Hub led by the Universities of Southampton and Sheffield. The Hub focuses on developing new industry-ready manufacturing processes by understanding, adapting and integrating photonics in four critical technology platforms: light generation & delivery, high-performance silica fibres, silicon photonics and the manufacturing of 2D and metamaterials. The aim is to improve cross-platform capability, reliability, yield and to reduce costs, working with partners and end-users across a wide range of industry sectors, including oil and gas, imaging, aerospace, defence and security, energy, ICT, manufacturing and healthcare.

The inaugural industry day invites partners and new prospective collaborators to Southampton to enjoy a packed programme including a presentation on the translation of academic research into industry by keynote speaker Dr Andrew Rickman OBE, CEO and Chairman of Rockley Photonics, technical talks on the latest developments in III-V and mid-IR photonics and advanced materials and a multi-company exhibition. Delegates will also have opportunities to join tours of the University's state-of-the-art cleanroom complex cleanroom tours and to book one-to-one meetings with key Hub researchers, as well as being the first to find out about the Hub's new Innovation Fund, open to RCUK eligible researchers and launching on the day.

The Future Photonics Hub Industry Day is free to attend but online registration is required by 31 August 2016. For more information and to register, visit: www.photonics_hub.eventbrite.co.uk
