Student wins award in national ICT Pioneers competition

Photonics Systems, Circuits and Sensors PhD student Callum Littlejohns, has won the ‘Information Overload’ award in the 2015 ICT Pioneers competition. Callum finished top of his category with his work entitled, ‘The Future is Bright – Silicon Photonics’, claiming the £2,000 prize reward from the annual competition run by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and key stakeholders.

Philip Nelson, Chief Executive of EPSRC, presenting the prizes, said:

“ICT Pioneers is our regular competition that we use to showcase the best work produced by UK PhD students. It’s awarded to students who can demonstrate the excellence and commercial potential of their ICT-related research.”

The 2015 competition was sponsored by Dstl, HP, EPSRC, BCS, BT, Facebook and Samsung. More information about UK ICT Pioneers can be found on the EPSRC website.

UK ICT Pioneers is a unique partnership between Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and key stakeholders that aims to recognise the most exceptional UK doctoral students in ICT-related topics who are able to communicate and demonstrate the excellence and exploitation potential of their research.
